Just the simple act of realizing that the phone is not within arm's reach, I can still see it, it's literally there automatically.
But the fact that I've got to get up to walk over, grab it, whatever, is enough for me to not do that thing.
It's enough for me to wake up and realize, no, I'm not going to do it.
The same thing is like snoozing the alarm.
If I put my alarm further away, so like by an old school alarm clock, if you're like a compulsive snoozer and it just never...
And then next to the alarm clock, you've got your watch that you already put on when you start your day.
So one of the first things I do when I wake up is I put my watch on.
So if I'm going to put my watch on, I've already broken the association of ever returning back to bed.
I'm not putting my watch on if I'm going to go back to bed.
So if I wake up maybe at like 5.30 because one of the babies woke up and I give them a feed.
at 5 30 a.m i'm not putting my watch on because i'm going to go back to bed for half an hour if the babies decide to sleep or not however if i'm getting up even if it's earlier than i want the moment my watch is on that's it so like if you can tag a few behaviors on that break that circuit so if i had to get out of bed earlier than i wanted to
But then I put my watch on, there's that kind of loop of like, well, you're up now.
Or if I brush my teeth in the morning, I'm fucking up now.
There's no way I'm going back to sleep if I've like had this minty taste in my mouth and I'm ready to go.
Like splash water on my face, whatever that is.
So if you can put your alarm clock near, like in the bathroom, how fucking loud would that be?
And then you like splash water on your face, that's a really good way of breaking that snoozing habit.
So anything that makes...
the performance of that habit harder, more of a mission to do, you're going to do that thing.
Okay.
