I mean, everyone could always use more money, especially in the research space.
I'm just wondering if for you and your work, you have...
So what are some of the challenges of fighting infectious disease in the settings where resources are limited?
You know, my next question was to ask about the role that scientists and researchers can play here, but I feel like you really answered that.
The role that a researcher and scientist can play is to understand the limitations and barriers for patients and create the opportunities and pathways to get through those obstacles.
So rather than just living in your silo where you're creating drugs and things, you're actually looking and understanding what your patient might need or some of the limitations and barriers that might prevent them from being able to get treatment and tailor your treatment so that someone might be able to receive it and actually have an effective outcome.
I agree.
I am so impressed just by what you've been able to accomplish, how far research, diagnostic testing, and treatment has progressed in the last 20 years.
And I'm excited to see where it goes.
And I hope that we will continue to see a decrease in the numbers of TB and also limit the amount of drug resistance that is occurring.
This was such an educating conversation.
And I really, really thank you for your time, Salumi.
Thank you.
Thank you, Alicia.
And we will end TB.
It was important to end on a positive note like that from Salome.
We talked a lot about the challenges and threats that remain with drug-resistant TB and the problems of funding gaps.
But I think it's important not to lose hope.
As harrowing as Endy's story was, it's also a powerful reminder of the improvements in diagnosis and treatment in the years since.
And after all, Endy himself beat the disease and now shares his story as an advocate.
