I would say that, you know, there's that phrase, you know, you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family.

I think that's not true at all.

I think you can absolutely choose your family.

You can.

And that's what we've done, really.

you can extend it.

I think it's a bit like when you have godparents, like the kids, if you get into godparents, that notion of godparents, what you're doing is you're inviting people to join your family by doing it.

They can be rubbish.

One of my son's godfathers is absolutely hopeless.

Doesn't remember birthdays, doesn't remember anything like that, but he is there if you absolutely need him at any given point.

He said himself, I won't remember birthdays or Christmas, so forgive me.

And he said, that's not what it's about.

You're inviting someone into your family.

And I think that's what, from the moment I met

Connor, I just knew.

That was where the school hall was.

That was the location for the school hall.

And in the first season, they couldn't call it

sex education because they thought oh yeah if we're looking to get locations and the location people are going around to various different locations going hi we're doing this show called sex education chances are they'll be turned down so on the call sheet it just said schooled and we saw it went that's shit sex education's really good but you're calling it schooled and they went no no it's just that we won't get educate we won't get locations and of course that changed after season one came out and people were just gagging for us to go and shoot yeah
