They literally took Jonathan Cresswell's word for everything that he said and there was a complete, I suppose, lack of curiosity to even try and see if anything that he was saying was making sense or even investigate very blurring, blatant red flags in terms of his own behaviour.
Chriswell says he found Katie trying to take her own life.
He, rather than wait for the ambulance, he bundles her into her own car and starts driving in the direction of Altnagelven.
He's on 999 at the time.
They're telling him to pull over.
and do CPR he's making all the noises if he's doing that but he didn't because she was still upright in his seat when the ambulance stopped the police arrived at this stage Katie has been put into the ambulance so there's an excuse where they could say they didn't see her bruises at that stage but what they don't do is first of all they don't detain Cresswell and they don't seize the car as evidence instead he's told by a police officer to follow behind the ambulance and meet them at the hospital he doesn't do that
He goes back to the house, he showers, he takes his clothes and he gives his clothes to, the clothes are seen by Hayley Robb being loaded into the back of her car on CCTV belonging to a neighbour, which police originally declined to gather because the neighbour says, oh, I don't know how that works and they went away.
Those clothes were then, as we know, taken away and washed.
He arrives back at the hospital in a completely different outfit and the officers don't question where he went, why he didn't follow him and why he's wearing different clothes.
So that is just failure number one initially.
They don't examine the house.
They don't examine the crime scene.
There is a walkthrough in the house and the body worn footage of that walkthrough lasts four seconds and a second portion of footage lasts three seconds and it's so blurry and wobbly that it just doesn't show anything.
Kitty's phone wasn't sought or seized.
Cresswell's phone wasn't taken.
Her car wasn't treated as a crime scene.
But more importantly, I suppose, than anything, is Kitty herself was not treated like a crime scene.
And this girl is covered in bruises.
Her legs are covered in bruises.
Her arms are covered in bruises.
