So me and my husband have been together 13 years, married for six and have two kids.

We share a joint account and we chose that we would combine both our incomes in this account.

From what we pay our mortgage, all the bills, food, shopping, kids, bits and our own bits and bobs.

I know others don't do this, but it generally works brilliantly for us, especially at times when I've been on mat leave, et cetera, and have a lesser income, but I'm child caring.

And it means we both have full oversight of our spending and budgeting.

But here's the thing.

I have always, since the beginning, secretly not put my entire income into the account.

I've kept a little bit of my own money separate every month.
