The flag's cloth covers the man's face, and his proud march appears to be courting disaster as he steps off the plinth with no ground beneath him.
The statue was installed overnight Wednesday in Waterloo Place near heroic statues of King Edward VII and Florence Nightingale.
By Thursday, a video about the statue had been published on Banksy's Instagram account, confirming it as his work.
The statue appeared in public just as King Charles III made a state visit to Washington, D.C., New York City, and Virginia.
The visit included President Trump celebrating the King and Queen Camilla at a state dinner.
Local officials in London, including the mayor's office, have said they would like the statue to remain in place.

Beatty filed a motion asking a federal circuit court judge to demand Trump and the rest of the arts complex's current board and staff stop calling it the Trump-Kennedy Center.
In the filing, Beatty's attorneys argue the new name directly contradicts congressional legislation, which designated the arts center as a living memorial to late President John F. Kennedy.
It's part of a larger suit Beatty filed in December against Trump and many members of the center's board.
In a statement to NPR, a press representative for the center wrote, quote, We're confident the court will uphold the board's decision on the name change and the desperately needed renovations, which will continue as scheduled.
The center is planned to be closed in July for renovations that are expected to last two years.

Cosby has denied the allegations, as he has with all previous similar accusations made by dozens of women.
This civil verdict is the latest legal battle for the disgraced entertainer.
Cosby served about three years in a Pennsylvania prison on sexual assault charges before his conviction was overturned on technical grounds in 2021.
