I said, what kind of consulting work?
He said, everything.
I know we're not supposed to say everything, but we were so desperate for revenue, we took everything on.
I said, okay, so how did that translate into software?
How did you become a software guy?
He said...
We noticed that apps were where it was at.
A lot of clients wanted apps.
I said, great.
Okay, so how did that take you into your own software?
He said, a lot of people who had apps, who had us build it, didn't know who was using the apps.
They didn't know who was using the app, even if we didn't build it.
They just kept saying, we'll give you more money if you could tell us who's using the apps.
How long are they using the apps?
Give us analytics.
Give us some insight.
So he said we created a little bit of software that did that, and it was pretty bad at first, but it kept improving and improving and improving.
And now he's got this hugely successful business that has clients like Nike, like Dunkin' Donuts, like McDonald's, all paying him for analytics.
The same thing happens in so many different spaces.
if you do it as a consultant you start to see the problems that people have firsthand and then who knows maybe you have just a big consulting company or maybe you augment it with a little bit of software and then you have recurring revenue from software maybe you become a full-on software business but the insight that you get where people pay you to learn by doing by doing consulting is priceless so how do you make the decision a lot of people listening right now would be very uh
