Well, the same thing that happened to any horse who had any ability.
I mean, the outcome of the race was just absolutely inscrutable to me.
Three extreme long shots that I think most, not only I, but most handicappers would have just eliminated right off the reel.
Well, I look at this race in the context of the first three horses.
They all were big stretch runners who came from the middle of nowhere, and they all looked terrible on paper.
So I just felt this result was inscrutable.
You know, if there had been a lot of speed and just set it up for golden tempo, you know, that would be the explanation.
But when you look at the form of a horse like Ocelli, who got beat at length and was a justifiable 70 to 1,
I can offer no rational explanation for what happened.
Well, I guess these days you should never be surprised when horses bypass the race.
you know, the increasing trend in racing and, you know, as the, you know, he, you know,
You know, so many, when the Daily Racing Forum surveyed the horses, the trainers of horses who were in the derby and asked who was running in the Preakness, the first day after, nobody would commit to it.
I mean, trainers are just very reluctant to bring their horses back in two weeks.
I think it's crazy, but that's the prevailing situation.
My explanation for it, at least this year, is that last year Bill Lott did the same thing with sovereignty.
He was the best horse in the world.
He just said, no, we don't want to run him back this quickly.
