But the reason I threw out the billion thing is that
The most major research papers and leaders in the market, including from Anthropic, suggest that training runs approaching a billion may begin to occur as soon as 2026.
They will exceed a billion dollars by 2027.
Now, the training costs, you know, for the marginal cost of the
training run itself does seem like a tiny fraction of what it costs to mount the data centers that are sufficient to do a training run and also then provide inference access for that model once it's trained.
But you're right, I shouldn't just throw out a billion loosely like that, because it's only on the order of a quarter of that that the largest frontier models have spent, that we know of to date.
