And this has been a slow process of transitioning away from that to focus more on recurring revenue.

And this is a piece of advice I've been telling to people who've been trying to emulate what I've been doing with my website is...

it takes time it takes a lot of time to get to a point where you have thousands of email subscribers and thousands of people in your community that are trusting you enough to give you money for being part of this journey so it's really good to have another source of revenue whether you keep your full-time job while you're building this on the side or whether you're able to freelance or do consulting

But I would say that it's very dangerous to believe the success stories of people who say they just woke up and they launched a community and two weeks later they had thousands of people in it.

So that's the one thing I would say about Nest Labs.

I'm very, very proud of my success, but it hasn't been an overnight success at all.
