So growing up was a much more freeing experience in some ways than it is today.
When we weren't at school, we went out in the morning and we came home for food.
And we went out in the afternoon and when we were called in when it got dark.
We're also aware that he wasn't really particularly engaged in the community of neighbours.
But as small children, we were curious, you know.
He had a garage that backed onto, from the main road, backed onto the back of Woodfield.
And it was full of, just full of stuff.
He didn't know at that point that we had got access, but then one day he just walked in.
He just walked in and we froze, like, you're caught.
And we were expecting what you would expect in those days from neighbours, good yelling and I'm telling your parents and all that.
But no, he was very at ease.
It's okay, come anytime you like, no problem.
And for us, as a group of children in a small little area, it was like a place you could go on rainy days and still have fun.
Remember, you're talking about six, seven, eight-year-olds here.
You're not talking about people thinking logically.
You're talking about child mind.
And I'd be lying in bed, looking at my tummy as a nine-year-old, convinced there was a baby growing, not knowing how this thing is going to burst out of me.
It was difficult.
That was a really scary time.
