They were kind of like, all right, look, if that's how we're playing it, we can play it too.
Because while Darlene might have been cooperating on paper, her behavior of, like, getting a lawyer involved so quickly, the weird reactions, the inconsistencies, it wasn't exactly convincing these investigators that she was innocent.
And they sure as hell didn't believe that a random intruder had broken in and shot Keith in his sleep.
So at this point, she was their one and only suspect.
The only thing left was proving it.
So they decided to go back to square one.
They needed to go back to the house.
They needed evidence, something physical, something solid that would back up the gut feeling that they had.
Now, luckily for them, Darlene had given them full consent for an entire search.
That meant no waiting around for a warrant, no delays, just straight to searching and straight to work.
And just to like level set and keep this timeline straight with you, this was the exact same day that Keith died.
That's how quickly everything was moving in this investigation.
So the police arrived to the house to search it.
And inside the family's home, the investigators started finding quite a few things that made their eyebrows start to raise up.
Doctors had already confirmed that Keith had been shot with a .22 caliber gun.
Yes, small, but deadly.
So the police knew exactly what kind of weapon they were looking for.
The only question being, where was it?
Now, to help, the investigators worked with Keith's dad, Wayman Sr., so that they could make a list of every single gun that Keith owned, or at least the ones that his dad knew about.
Then, once they had that list, they could compare it to that pile of guns that the police had found dumped right outside of the house.
