It was more like this like big muddy puddle compared to an actual lake.
And sure enough, within 10, maybe 15 minutes, they found it.
They found Keith's missing .22 caliber handgun.
They found it exactly where they thought it would be.
Now, investigators knew that they had to tread lightly because if they made one wrong move, Darlene's defense team could totally twist it.
Maybe they would claim that she had been framed or that the gun had been planted.
They just needed something stronger than just finding it.
So they decided to come up with a plan.
A trap, rather.
And they needed Robert's help to pull it off.

But of course, he said, before they could fill it, they'd have to drain it.
They'd have to remove all of the water out of it first.
So Robert told her, you know, don't worry, it's going to be a very fast process.
It'll probably be done within the next day or two, and there's absolutely nothing to worry about.
But what Darlene didn't know was that the second that she picked up that phone, she had already walked directly into their plan.
Now, before Robert told her this information, the investigators had some of their detectives hide in some nearby bushes by this pond, hide out with some cameras and just kind of wait.
It was almost like something out of a movie, if I'm being honest, because they were confident that Darlene would be showing up there in no time, like frantic about the news that the pond was going to be drained, trying to get there, trying to get the gun and retrieve it, and knowing that these workers would surely notice a gun at the bottom.
And boy, oh boy, were these investigators right.
Because within just two hours of Robert and Darlene's conversation, Darlene showed right up to that property.
