Okay, so this next case that I want to talk about is one that honestly just makes you pause for a second because it starts with somebody trying to do the right thing, trying to help somebody, be a good Samaritan, but it ends in the most horrifying way possible.
So let me backtrack a minute.
A retired nurse in Florida was murdered inside his own home.
And the police say that the person responsible is a 19-year-old teenager that he had actually taken in trying to help.
So everything first started when the neighbors realized something was just off here.
67-year-old John Torino lived in Davenport, Florida.
He was a retired nurse, as I mentioned.
He was very routine-oriented, very social, and usually in constant contact with his friends.
So when people didn't see him for a few days, and they couldn't get him to answer the phone calls or the text messages, I mean, it raised immediate concern, right?
So one neighbor finally called in for a welfare check.
A deputy ended up coming out and spoke with the neighbor, and this neighbor explained that John had been letting this 19-year-old kid, Julian Trevino, live with him.
Which, I say kid, but I get it.
Technically an adult, but still.
19 years old.
So Julian had been staying there since September.
However, according to the neighbor, things were not going very well.
Julian wasn't paying his rent, he wasn't helping out around the house, and apparently earlier that same week, on December 10th, John had finally told him, like, The neighbor also mentioned that John had recently changed the locks because Julian was no longer allowed to even be there.
So here's where it gets interesting and honestly kind of a little bit frustrating.
The neighbor had a key to the house, and they also pointed out that John's car was not in the driveway.
A deputy apparently even spotted the car traveling south, and because of that, they wrongfully assumed that John just wasn't home.
