But as we've covered many times here, so many of these cases unfortunately do end in situations like this.
Again, this should never be something that someone has to say.
So the question is, how did investigators catch on to all of this?
Well, according to prosecutors, a friend of the nephew heard what had happened and went to the police.
Thank God.
And the nephew then confessed he had been assaulted too and threatened and forced to dispose of Crystal Rose's body.
Investigators were eventually able to then locate Crystal Rose's remains by pinging her phone, which led them to the wooded area where the barrel had been dumped.
An autopsy later confirmed that she died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Jesus has since been charged with murder, tampering with evidence involving a human corpse, assault, and unlawful restraint.
Prosecutors also say the phone data places him at the dump site the morning of December 1st.
During questioning, Jesus acknowledged he was in a relationship with Crystal Rose, and he did say that they had argued right around Thanksgiving.
He claims that she accused him of keeping her like a prisoner, which is pretty ironic.
But then he told police that she left for several days and then returned on November 30th, and that when he came home from work on December 1st, then she was suddenly gone, which obviously that story doesn't really line up.
At one court appearance, Jesus briefly spoke through a translator and said, I want to say only that I am innocent.
And then the judge cut him off because he didn't have an attorney yet.
Crystal Rose's family say the relationship had been on and off since 2019 and had become abusive at times.
Her father said he feels anger, depression, disbelief, that he doesn't even believe this is real and that he cries every single day, which is heartbreaking because, again, to hear those details about your own daughter and that someone she trusted and a place she felt safe that this could even happen to her, it's unimaginable.
Jesus is currently being held without bond and is also on an ice hold.
He's due back in court soon.
And this is just, again, one of those cases that makes me furious, similar to the case that we covered last week, because it wasn't random.
