And of course, Donald Trump had sued 60 Minutes last year about an interview that they did with Kamala Harris prior to the 2024 presidential election.
And a lot of people kind of dismissed that lawsuit, saying that it wasn't a sign of bias the way they edited that interview.
But Donald Trump ended up settling with CBS for millions of dollars.
And it was viewed by many to have been because of the oversight that his administration had on Paramount's takeover bid
of cbs and that this was this moved the way for it so there had been evidence of of 60 minutes being in the spotlight and being the focus of donald trump in the past and then uh just last year there were there was that story about the seacott prison
uh in el salvador that got put on hold by the new management including barry weiss of cbs because they wanted to have more of a the administration's perspective uh presented in that and that segment uh did not air for weeks after it was supposed to and that was kind of the controversy so there's been a lot of pressure on cbs political pressure on 60 minutes in in particular because of the way they've been reporting about the trump administration and there has been
the feeling that the ownership and the leadership at CBS has been attempting to reel in 60 Minutes.
And that's something that Scott Pelley himself has accused the leadership of doing.
Right.
And the leadership of CBS has said that things need to change.
CBS News needs to change to adjust and adapt to the times that linear television, as we know, Sumi, we're working in and adjacent to it, linear television, the viewership numbers are going down.
The audience is getting older.
You have to find different ways of going to where the audience is.
And while maybe 60 Minutes is still riding high with good viewership numbers, I'm sure they look at the demographic trend lines also.
And
and understand that there are things that need to be done to adjust to the current media environment.
So it seems like Scott Pelley's criticism and the reason he had a blow-up last week where he went into a staff meeting and started braiding the new person who was put in charge of 60 Minutes is because he felt like the layoffs and the changing of the personnel at 60 Minutes was not justified, was not explained enough, and it was just too abrupt.
Well, Sumi, great to have you on, filling in.
I hope you kept my seat warm.
I will bring you back some lobster from here in Maine.
