I mean, nobody's going to have a higher BABIP than that this season.
over 600 like it's just this just unfathomable um he's got a 1.68 xfip talking about stats that tend to be predictive going forward i mean that's sixth highest among qualified relievers 40% whiff rate 40% chase rate he's allowed only two barrels in 12 appearances like there's lots of stats you can point to that suggests to your point um
This guy has been tremendously unlucky and ought to have gotten better results than he has.
And the expected statistics, whether it's expected ERA, expected batting average, expected slug, expected weighted on base, those are all significantly lower than his actual numbers.
But that's just been the season of extremes that he's had, because when he's been good, he's been unbelievably good.
And when he's been bad, he's been like off the rails, disastrous meltdown bad.
So based on all this, like, I believe that he will be better.
His stuff has never been as good as we've seen it this year.
i think that if you took the name off of it and you just and you took like you took all that like if you just showed somebody the numbers i think i don't think anybody could arrive at the conclusion that this guy's terrible they would arrive at the conclusion this guy's unlucky and has amazing stuff and just needs to make some adjustments to get better but i think it's easiest to make those adjustments by dialing down the leverage a little bit
I just don't think that you can name somebody else your closer just because of the makeup and the composition of the Blue Jays bullpen right now.
There isn't somebody obvious who can step in and do that.
It could be Louis Varland, but there's so many situations where it's really valuable to use Louis Varland in prior to the ninth, and I wouldn't want to close myself off to that as a manager.
It's just I think that it is best and easiest and gives you the most flexibility to operate your bullpen without really restrictive roles.
And I think that sometimes that can run counter to player comfort.
And most relievers prefer to just have an idea of exactly when they're going to pitch.
But I think that everyone might need to just be a bit more uncomfortable right now.
while the blue jays sort this out because ultimately the blue jays are a late game leverage arm short like they are a brendan little and a yemi garcia short um if they had one of those two i think they could be more rigid in how they deploy varland and hoffman
