um and it's kind of come and gone from my arsenal uh i just need to throw this all out the window and try something completely new like that was just a turning point for him where he completely overhauled the grip and he found something that's working for him now and he doesn't love how it sits in his hand it doesn't feel natural to him it doesn't feel as good as his former slider grip with like the thumb tuck and the way he sort of snaps it out voice-verified

but it's working and it's revived the pitch as a part of his arsenal and that's such an important pitch for him against righties um because there's like a whole like when he doesn't have that pitch against righties puts more pressure on other pitches in his arsenal and then teams are very quick to notice that he's not confident in the slider and he's not throwing it and like there's an entire chain of events that leads to him ultimately struggling not being his best on the mound um so it's just interesting to hear him talk about that and i think that that voice-verified

perspective, that mindset, him still having that at 42, is just like a really good example for everybody with the Blue Jays, particularly their starting pitchers. voice-verified
