So these are clear indicators that he has been fortunate on balls in play.
I also remember, though, when the Blue Jays signed him, like I came on this podcast and I said, like, just watch us look up at the end of the season and this guy will have made like 25 starts because it's just the nature of starting pitching.
Like, I didn't think he was going to be this good, but I thought he was going to be serviceable as like a five and dive back end guy who pitched maybe like a hair above league average, not well below league average.
Like, I didn't think we'd be looking at a two win Patrick Corbin season, but
I thought maybe we'd be looking at like a 0.8 win Patrick Corbin season, mostly based on volume.
I think he's made some meaningful adjustments to his mix as well.
Like that the Blue Jays have just maybe juiced a bit more effectiveness out of them.
Like he's thrown his changeup more than he ever has.
And he's always going to see lineups stacked with righties.
So like that changeup moving to his arm side is going to be huge for him.
And like this is not just an easy pitch to really...
increase in your arsenal like Dylan sees been trying to learn a change up for his entire career finally got one that he actually liked coming out of spring this year it looked good to begin with but now it's gone away because you can see he's just not commanding it like he just can't throw it for a strike he can't put it where he wants to it's either a miss way off the plate or way over the plate where it gets hammered so like it's to Patrick Corbin's credit that he
had the feel for this pitch to be able to just locate it consistently and get really good results with it his slider also getting really good results so like i think that he's actually made some adjustments that are behind the success so it's not just like total random fluke luck he's doing the exact same things as he's done in the past that produced poor results
I think he has made adjustments, and I think that there's reasons why he is pitching better.
So what he's doing so far likely isn't sustainable, but I don't think that he's going to turn into a complete pumpkin after this.
I do think he can be effective going forward just based on the very real changes that he made.
What's working for him is he's just really fearless with his sinker on the plate.
Like he's just not afraid to throw it in the zone to really good hitters.
And he's typically getting soft contact with it.
