I'm a professor in the Department of Genetics at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Now you can imagine that getting a normal retina is not a very easy task because why would you get a normal retina from a baby?
I must tell you that if and when an eyeball comes, it is not a pleasant experience, right?
Because for a moment you have to think the origin, the sources of this eyeball.
Because only when a normal child dies, that's when I can get this retina.
I mean, it's so bad when a child dies, but I am asking for his or her retina.
In a way, I had this sense of guilt in my head.
But after my conversation with the lab, I took, I think, one day to compose a letter and I sent it back to Sarah Gray.
I told her, I think, at the very onset that, Sarah, you have to understand that I feel awful.
