As for Marianne, whose life was irreparably altered that night.
She eventually managed to heal a little bit from the trauma of her loss and built a life for herself working as a statistical analyst.
In 1997, she retired with her partner in Rutland, Vermont, but she carried Kitty's memory with her until her death in April 2024.
In 2004, Marianne spoke to the press for the first time about her relationship with Kitty, during which the interviewer asked if Kitty hadn't died that night, would they still be together?
And she said, I think Kitty would probably own a bar and I think she would be happy.
And then she paused for a second and added, we both would.
