Aubrey Marcus

Naming is something that's very important to me, and it's a whole process.

And there are other names, but for now, Aubrey Marcus will do.

Aubrey was my grandfather's name, but I had never met my grandfather on either side, nor met anyone who carried grandfather energy.

So there was no elders, male elders, in my childhood and in my life.

So when I met Don Howard Lawler,

That was the first time I met a grandfather, and he carried the lineage of Shavin, and he served medicine for 50 years, humbly, listening, learning, serving.

And that was the first time that I had contact with a lineage that had roots and had teachings and had simple things that were ways to live by.

And the first of those was, ,, for the good of all.

And that's been a rallying cry for me ever since I heard it, because the self is included in the all.

And we can't forget that.

And that was another one of Don Howard's teachings, which is, in order to be of service, you first have to be fit for service.

So you have to pour into your cup until there's an overflow and that everybody can drink from the saucer around the cup.

But if the cup is empty, there will be no water.

So there'll be nothing to drink for the people around you.

And I sometimes screw that up.

I think a lot of times I make things in the world as reminders so that I don't forget.

I think I maybe created Fit for Service so I could be reminded.

that I need to pour back into my own cup, which all too often I'll be pouring, pouring, pouring, and then I'll go look and there's nothing but dust.

And so that's something I need to keep with me constantly.

And it's something that I'm continuing to learn.
