At the time, he did not find it necessary to hospitalize Andrea.
According to Rusty, around the time that Andrea was hospitalized, she was having auditory and visual hallucinations, and she thought that Satan was inside her.

Andrea was seen waiting for the officers at the front door, breathing heavily.
When they got to the door, she said to them, I just killed my kids.
Several officers discovered four of the Yates' children dead.
It was Mary, Luke, Paul, and John.
