They said this issue is so bad that online ads for gambling need to be banned altogether.
There were a range of other recommendations, including creating a new gambling warning label and introducing identity verification for online gambling.
Now, the reforms that we are talking about today is actually not the official response from the government to that report.
Pause for a second.
I mentioned that it came out in 2023.
So it does give you an idea that it takes so long for the government to respond.
It doesn't always take this long, but this time it has.
And again, what we're talking about today actually isn't the official response to that report.
It's just some reforms that have now been announced in relation to gambling.
The official response, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was asked this a couple of weeks ago when these reforms were announced.
He said that the official response will be handed down on day one of parliament next time it meets.
So the reforms that he announced, he said the aim of these reforms is to stop children from growing up and seeing too many gambling ads.
He said we don't want children in Australia growing up and seeing gambling ads everywhere they look and we want children to be able to watch sport without that being synonymous with gambling.
Okay, so I'll go through a list of what was announced.
So no more than three ads per hour between 6am and 8.30pm on TV.
So you can have a maximum of three ads per hour during those hours.
