It's going to be tough for me.
You know, and he was a he was going to be kind of a utility guy if he were to make it to the big leagues.
He decided kind of against my will.
He asked me for dad advice and I told him he was at that that point, that fork in the road where what do I do?
And I said, I think you need to go to the Dominican Republic and play winter ball and play against real players and see if you can hold your own.
And if you can.
uh keep playing and if you can't the writing's on the wall go do what you want to do yeah but he's just he's an intellect he's a uh he's a baseball rat he's that's all he was like me growing up if you don't have anybody to play catch with if dad's too busy to play catchers he's throwing the tennis ball against the garage door that's the type of kid he was but he's he i'm really proud of him he's a smart kid uh he knows baseball inside and out and he has that
that to add to his resume now he's got four years of pro baseball under his belt as a player so awesome man he he uh he worked for the he worked for the commissioner's office he went through arbitration on the other side wow then all of a sudden started getting some interviews and and metz was one of the team he's living in new york now you know when he was working for the commissioner so it was a perfect fit for him so yeah he's in new york in the front office and he calls me he's like dad it's it's rough right now i said i know
I watch every day.
You know, it was amazing for me because I hadn't been in uniform in a long time.
And when I got the call last year to be a hitting coach with the Rangers, I went back into uniform.
And I took it in stride.
And I thought, you know, I've been there, done that.
I've seen everything you can see.
I'll tell you what, I haven't seen everything you can see.
Putting on that jersey as a coach, not as a player, it was harder than playing.
And all of a sudden, I've got 13 kids to worry about.
And you wear those wins and losses everywhere.
