I actually had a therapist, Lulu, on my podcast and we did an episode about how to stop overthinking.
It was one of my favorite episodes.
I learned so much.
It was like a literal therapy session for myself.
And she posed this idea and I love it so much.
It's the idea that
we have become so attached to this constant need for information at all times.
Let me break this down.
For example, pre-phone, pre-iPhone days, smartphone, excuse me, you used to call someone on their home phone, for example, and if they didn't answer, oh, well, no big deal.
I'll leave a voicemail.
They'll get back to you when they can.
Nowadays, if you text or even Snapchat someone if you're into that,
and they don't get back to you for a couple of hours, your nervous system rises.
You feel anxious and your brain automatically assumes, oh my gosh, they hate me.
Oh my gosh, they're mad at me.
Oh my gosh, they died.
Something's wrong.
Their phone must be broken.
I don't know.
I'm freaking out.
