And the latter is incredibly important when the evidence is missing.
You default back to, and that experience is really important.
The wily old clinicians here who can look up and go,
Do you know what?
I had experience in these situations before.
We've had this type of patient before.
The scenario is they're unlikely to benefit.
Let's try this.
Sit tight.
Hold back.
And I think dealing with uncertainty, understanding expertise and experience is something we've got to renew out of all this because we will be faced with lots of decisions and we are every day with lots of decisions where the evidence is not certain.
And we have to respond in a way that brings forward values and experience and expertise.
It's like a sermon that really, isn't it?
I apologize.
But I reel that out and I've reeled it out for 20 plus years at this moment.
It feels perfect.
Well, look, I think this is where what's been heartening in all this is the reaffirmation of healthcare, the NHS, and what's most important.
We're putting a stamp in the ground, a marker that says we want this to be in a better shape going forward.
But I am going to say that this idea of experience and expertise is incredibly important to being a great doctor.
