They are like, if you've ever seen video, just look for lithium ion fire, lithium ion plane fire, just search for it on Google or on YouTube.
And
They burn like Roman candles.
They are incredibly intense.
The fires are rather difficult to put out because they are so hot and of course the problem with chargers and external batteries is you can buy them on Amazon and some of them are good and some of them aren't and some of them are substandard and if the design is not quite there, if it's too cheap to be true or maybe you dropped it a few times and damaged it or it's got a nick in the corner
That can increase the potential for what we call thermal runaway for a major event happening.
And so this is this is a problem.
And it's particularly concerning in aviation because of the constraints of carrying something on board.
Yeah.
I don't even want to imagine that.
When I travel, I always have one in my backpack, but I worry about it, right?
And I keep it visible just in case.
But I worry about all the other people who maybe have older ones or maybe don't know the risks of these devices or use them long after they should have been properly discarded because they're dangerous.
And I think it's something we're going to have to pay more attention to going forward.
Interestingly, more airlines are now like Southwest, for example, is redesigning its aircraft interiors to include plugs so that you won't need to use your own battery.
You can just plug your phone in.
Yeah, I've got a small one that I use for travel and a kind of a big one that I use closer to home.
But at the same time, if I knew that there were plugs on planes and in airports, I would leave that at home because it is additional weight.
So I think it's a question the industry probably has to look inward as well, because increasingly we are taking more electronic devices and they will run out of battery and that's the fear.
So, you know, certainly providing recharging opportunities while you're on the go, that would obviate or obsolete the need to take one of these devices with you.
