starts in 2019 and when it starts in 2019 I remember I had no idea what The Boys was I've told a lot of people this story before I legitimately kept driving down La Brea and seeing the same billboard over and over and over again and that billboard was about
I don't know, like something about evil superheroes or whatever.
Whatever the show comes on, I watch the show.
I'm like, yo, this is fucking crazy.
But at that point, The Boys was a direct rebuke, criticism, almost lampooning of the world of superheroes that we existed in.
The MCU was healthy.
And so it was a lot easier to take the piss out of the MCU and have that be something that made this world into this sort of amazing fabric of anti-heroes and disgusting stuff that was compelling.
Things changed in two ways.
Number one, now the world is so cynical, we want the MCU back forever.
The version of the MCU that was there that felt good, the stories that had these arcs that were emotional and these characters that you could glom onto, the MCU tried to do this thing where they got a little bit more kind of out there and mean.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Don't want that anymore.
It's not what we want.
Even the Superman stuff that's coming out, that stuff is coming out and it's feel-good superhero stuff.
And that's the stuff that is kind of working right now to a degree.
Now...
That happened along with, at the same time, the world changing to being almost identical to the world that The Boys is portraying.
And for a lot of people, that's a drag.
Like for a lot of people, like watching a race to the bottom, like a worse competition between characters, it doesn't, it feels weird.
It feels bad, right?
