of those dreams.

Hello and welcome to the British English Podcast.
Today we're back with another IELTS prep episode and this time we're tackling part three of the speaking exam, which honestly tends to be the bit students worry about the most.
If you've never sat the test before, I'll explain part three properly in a moment.
But the short version is that it's the discussion section at the end where the examiner suddenly turns into a slightly nosy interviewer and starts asking what you actually think about things rather than a full on monologue like in part two.
So the topic for today I wanted to do is technology and social media, which feels appropriate, right?
Because you're almost certainly listening to this on a piece of technology right now.
So, yeah, we're already off to a strong start there.
But yeah, I've picked a very typical part three question and we're going to listen to three different versions of this answer being a band five, band seven and a band nine.
And along the way, I'll break down exactly what's lifting each one up to be that next level or perhaps holding it back from being that next level, if that makes sense.
So you can start hearing the difference between them in your own speaking as well.
So, yes, get comfortable, get yourself a cuppa and let's crack on, shall we?
For anyone newer to the IELTS speaking test, a quick recap.
So part one is the warm-up.
Where do you live?
Do you work or study?
Yeah, that kind of thing.
Then part two is the cue card.
So you get two minutes of monologue on a topic that you can't choose, but you do get a cue card.
