I have to back myself off a lot sometimes.
Sometimes I tend to throw a lot of everything in and the message is lost.
That's why I look forward to getting together with collaborators who might not know as much as me musically, but
know what to subtract.
And I've gotten a lot better at knowing myself what to take out.
Absolutely.
Prince was really good at that.
Prince could play every instrument, could sing any style, multi-instrumentalist, genius level of talent.
And then at the very, very end, right an hour before he's supposed to turn in, when doves cry, he's like, take the bass out.
And his engineer would be like, the bass that we spent days recording, yeah, take it out.
It doesn't need bass.
Genius.

Like I'm cognizant of that, but that's not why I do it.
