And Shandling, it's really, I think everyone appreciated Shandling or understood Shandling.
what he did for tv and how innovative he was but now there's two you know it's the gary shanley show and the talk show and larry sanders so he has two sort of groundbreaking break down the fourth wall and one of them and the other one is just totally innovative so times two yes well to your point i'm i think this documentary of the zen diaries of gary shanley is made for people of my generation my age who were a little too young for larry sanders and a little too poor for
Yeah, it's a brilliant documentary, and it just shows, I guess, you tell me, because writing, directing, TV, documentaries, do you just feel like storytelling is storytelling is storytelling?
I think so, and the best compliment I got on the documentary was someone said, it feels a little bit like your movies.
And I thought that was good, because my movies are just trying to show that
Life is mysterious and hard, and we're all just trying to be happy, and we have all these obstacles along the way, and it's a mess, and we just hope we evolve and get a little better.
And that really is a story of Gary's life.
You know, you're wounded as a kid.
Bad shit happens.
It fucks you up.
It makes you a certain kind of person.
