They define our values and so on.
Sometimes they aren't helpful.
And one really important exercise is understand your beliefs and whether they're leading to good decisions.
Or are they what we would call self-limiting beliefs?
And self-limiting beliefs around money could be things like, I don't deserve money.
I don't deserve to be rich.
I do deserve to be rich.
It can be just as self-limiting.
I'm not very good with money.
Stock market's not for me.
Yeah.
Stock market's not for me.
That's a common one.
All of these things are beliefs that we hold about ourselves.
Now, if you'll allow me to just get into one particular psychological model called Kolb's Cycle of Learning.
which is how we develop these values and beliefs.
So we go through this cycle, according to this model, which is we have an experience, something's happened to us, that creates a reaction in us.
We may then test that by doing something.
Maybe we'll do that thing again to see if we get the same outcome.
And so we go around the circle where we're having experiences, which lead to conclusions, which leads to actions, which leads to experiences and so on and so on.
