And I think we can do something about that.

New Zealand is a first world country with plenty of money and plenty of resources, but it is not filtering through to the people who need it.

The economic power in New Zealand is being concentrated in the hands of far too few people.

And that's not the way the modern economy should work.

So I'm here because I think inequality is out of control.

And the kids are ultimately the ones who are paying the worst price for that.

And we can do something about that.

Look, ACT and New Zealand First have always carved out a bit of a niche and scratching that particular itch.

The National Party have generally risen above that in government.

They've had their moments in opposition, Don Brash being a case in point.

But when they've been in government, they've generally been able to rise above that.

And my great disappointment here is the National Party.

You know, I look at people like Jim Bolger, Doug Graham, Christopher Finlayson, even Bill English, people on many levels I'll disagree with.

On this, I actually think they helped to move the country forward.

You know, some of the most progressive treaty settlements that we've had were actually negotiated by Chris Finlayson, a national minister in charge of treaty settlements.

The first one, the first substantive one, was Jim Bolger as Prime Minister.

They deserve credit for that.

And the National Party of today is just trashing a legacy that they should be proud of.

world feels pretty overwhelming at the moment there's a lot going on and it's easy to feel overwhelmed by that to feel like it's all too much but we don't just have to sit back and wait for things to happen to us we've got choices we've got options we can shape a better future but it's going to be shaped by the people who get involved so my message to everybody is if you're standing back and just thinking this is too big of a problem for me i'm not going to get involved in it

then you're ultimately going to be leaving it to other people and you're not going to be shaping the sort of future that you deserve.
