I think I got lucky with the palliative care I organised for my wife.
It was through Marie Curie.
Which to my horror, I discovered is not a government funded charity.
It gets some government money in fairness, but most of its money is charity raised through the various fundraising efforts that it does.
but the doctors, nurses, and carers from Marie Curie, they were coming at times four or five times.
My wife died at home.
I kept her at home.
But they were turning up four or five times a day and sometimes spending the night with her to give me some respite.
They were absolutely amazing.
So I have no complaints about the palliative care, but it was not state-provided.
It was charity-provided.
Bizarrely, I mean, I will give Marie Curie probably quite a lot of money eventually, but they...
I'm not charged for any of this.
It was all free.
That's amazing.
But I know that's not everybody's experience.
give people that night dignified death give a shout out to the the bit of the nhs that really did work for her were the district nurses who are also part of the daily visiting team and there i think i got lucky with the the one that came the most often christy was her name um was unbelievable i mean it was it was moving profound to see her work to see the care that she was able to give the things that she was able to do it was a it was a
earth-moving experience for me, I can assure you.
You know, these lowly paid, incredibly skilled, incredibly professional, incredibly compassionate people like that.
I know they don't always turn up, but when they do, it's brilliant.
