He's in office, but he's not in power.
The speech that he gave yesterday was yet another example of how wrong he can get things.
He's clearly existing in some kind of, I don't know, information, fact-free bubble inside Number 10, where all his advisors are telling him all he's got to do is make a rah-rah, strong-sounding speech that says absolutely nothing.
There was a cartoon in The Times, I think it was today, where they had Starmer standing in front of a lectern giving his speech and a big empty speech bubble coming out of his mouth saying, which is kind of the way things are at the moment.
He said absolutely nothing of any interest or consequence or import in his speech yesterday, which was designed apparently by him and his advisers working all over the weekend.
to save his premiership.
And it just is ridiculous, the fact that he's still there.
He's clearly unfit for the job.
The problem is, it's not obvious who else is fit for the job, because although Starmer has shown no inclination whatsoever to tackle any of the problems that the UK faces, the problems now run so deep and have been going on for so long, for so many years.
it's going to take a multi-year program of radical action to do anything about it.
And I doubt very much whether any of the aspiring candidates have got it within them to even diagnose the problem, let alone come up with solutions to do anything about it.
You know, the whole thing from start to finish of the last couple of years of this Labour government has been one farce after another.
And the fact is, Jim, we're about to get another one that will solve absolutely nothing, I'm afraid.
Chris, is the UK now where Italy was?
There's been a running joke on social media.
I hate to use those words because it suggests I've been reading social media.
But in this particular instance, for strange reasons, I have.
It's not a habit I've got anymore.
And thankfully, I'm not going to reacquire it.
But people have been asking that question.
