But that first Record Store Day was huge.
And I think the 20th anniversary is next year.
And in between, you've had a lot of, I suppose, the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Amy Winehouse and Bob Marley and Pink Floyd selling volume every year to the point that they're the best selling, you know, vinyl titles every year.
And then you have the newer artists like the pop artists bringing out like multiple formats of vinyl.
And then you have the likes of Fontaine's and Ecap really focusing in on the vinyl formats to sell their new releases.
So between the catalogue and between the new releases, there's a huge market for vinyl now.
I think last year there was
nearly half a million units sold in Ireland alone.
Oh, completely.
Like, I mean, I still listen to records that I bought when I was 16 and...
you know, the sound and the fact that you own them and everything else that goes with them.
And at the time, you're just buying records.
But some of the significance or the significance of some of them now, you can see like the colour, the original pressing, the catalogue numbers that were there at the time from the likes of Stone Roses and the Factory Records releases.
They're very collectible now, so I would always endorse a vinyl sale or a vinyl or a record being pressed to vinyl because it is that thing that can last in your record collection for decades, literally.
Well, I suppose if you want to listen to the records, it's very, you can get easily distracted on your phone, let's be honest.
So you're flicking through songs on Spotify or whatever other digital service you use.
and the record is to be listened to from side A and side B I still refer to some records that I listen to for side B because that's the you know tracks 4 to 10 or whatever tracks 5 to 10 so yeah it is it is probably the best format and it's the format that has outlasted everything it's outlasted CDs cassettes Napster Myspace the whole lot of them so chances are in 30-40 years time we'll still be talking about vinyl and all the other kind of DSPs will have fallen away or have you know sorry gone back in popularity
Not a chance.
I think UK last year, there was, I think, six, seven million units sold.
Last year here, there was about half a million.
