Politicians hate headlines about recessions.
More people means that's less likely to happen.
To be clear, the
The politics of migration are made much more complex, not just by those things, but by our policy failings on everything else.
And those policy failings on everything else have lasted for so many decades.
That responsibility lies clearly with us to get them better.
I do, which is not the same thing as saying I like everything in it.
There's some things in it that I quite strongly disagree with.
But it is fair to say, if you look back in the last couple of decades, we have had white-knuckled, scary budgets as we fought off crises.
And the budget had to do really important things during COVID, during the global financial crisis.
And again, not to say that our decisions were perfect either time, but we know because we could compare to what other nations did, that both times we did better than other nations.
And, you know, federally, it was under one side of politics with COVID and another side during global financial crisis.
What we have not done for many years now, our politicians have not challenged Australians enough.
If an opposition says, you know, we really need to change, we don't vote them in.
If a government, right, think of the 2014 budget, says, all right, we do need to change.
And this budget said, we do need to change.
we tend to kick them out of the following election.
As an electorate, we have begged our politicians to do nothing.
We have elected the ones who promised to do nothing, and then they deliver on that promise of doing nothing.
Our problem is that the barnacles
