Once Sonny got Gunner back inside, Gunner tried to run away again, trying to leave out of the window, but once again, Sonny caught up with him, grabbed his foot, and pulled him back inside. Then he pinned him down and beat him again. Christina said that this whole thing was just a nightmare. She regrets not calling the police, but again, she was scared of how Sonny would react.

And from there, she was given resources and was directed to women helping battered women. After receiving some care and some help from those various resources, finally, by July of 2013, Christina decided to leave. She filed for a relief from abuse order with the family courts, as well as for divorce. She told the judge how Sunny physically manhandled her son.

Gunner would stay at one house while his sister Elise stayed at the other parent's house and they would just switch back and forth whenever. At the same time, both teenagers would try to spend as much time at friends' houses, staying the night at their houses as often as they could to separate themselves from this whole ordeal. which absolutely makes sense.
