Right.
He was sort of, well, there's the nuclear thing.
But then he said we had obliterated their nuclear program.
Then they expanded it to ballistic missiles.
Essentially, what they were saying and what was the subtext now, in hindsight, pretty obvious, is the regime is a danger and is an imminent threat.
That's essentially the case.
So it is notable that the president went to war with Iran with less evidence than
then President Bush went to war with Iraq.
As for the political fallout on this, I told you one where I think it's going to be very difficult.
We now have a lot of obligations.
And that's going to be interesting.
That's where I think the president is going to have
problems with his party.
His party will rally around him.
Getting rid of Khomeini is not going to be unpopular in the Republican Party.
It's not going to be unpopular in this country.
What's going to be unpopular in this country is diverting American money to Iran, to rebuild Iran.
And that's where the president will find his limits at some point.
Now, maybe he doesn't care.
Maybe he will walk away.
