I don't think that it was fake, but I do think that maybe production could have had a situation where Erica and Kyle were not stranded because they did have another car and they chose to strand them.

She saw two cars and she took one, knowing her friends had another car.
I think that's the difference.
It's not that Dorit stranded them.
