He wanted to stay exactly where he was for as long as he possibly could, which meant doing as little as he possibly could within his job, which is just... So sad. Look, do I understand the mentality? Yes. Go work in a warehouse or literally any other industry where sitting in the same level of position is acceptable and does not actively cause harm to other people.

That wasn't a cushy air conditioned office job. Go be a manager at a Walgreens. Like, you know, I understand he wanted to, you know, make a little money and have it. Really, it seems like he wanted the fame and the attention from it. But I understand wanting to have a consistent and, you know, nothing too insane to be done during the day job. Makes sense.

That's not what a district attorney should be. That's not what should ever be expected of going into the job of district attorney. And anybody who is attempting to make a district attorney position into that should be ridiculed because you are actively then doing the opposite of what that job description entails. And you are borderline obstructing justice at that point. So that's my two cents.
