I think that Melbourne was an exceptional city in any context.
any stretch of the imagination in terms of the kinds of places there were to play.
Certainly in the 70s, 60s as well, 60s and the 70s,
You know, you would do sometimes four or five gigs in a night.
You'd do one in the afternoon.
In a night?
Yeah, you'd do one in the afternoon.
You'd do one earlier in the evening.
You'd do one like a regular and then you'd do a late show, you know.
And so there was lots of opportunities for live bands to play and develop their playing skills and their songwriting skills.
And so...
There was lots of great music around then.
I don't really think that there was great ability in being able to, you know, market bands in an international capacity.
I mean, certain bands became very successful, like the Seekers.
And I remember before I left Scotland, I'd heard of the Seekers because they had hits.
And we sold them in the shop.
You know, that was the first Australian band that I can remember hearing of were the Seekers.
Fantastic songs.
Yeah, I mean, I started, I was in this band when I first came to Melbourne.
It was called Deep Impression.
