There was an American record producer in Sydney at the time and he was brought to see us by Peter Carpin who signed the band and he said he wanted to produce us and he was a very good record producer.

He knew what he was doing in the studio because, you know, we did not.

So he was very good at producing the songs and producing us.

But I think it was one of those things where...

I'd been dreaming about this for 15 years.

I'd been kind of plotting, scheming, and we were quite confident in ourselves.

We were quite self-assured in the sense that we thought that we had something different.

And, of course, we'd been playing to live audiences before we made a record, and the live audiences kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger, even though we hadn't made a record.

So we were playing to sometimes 1,000 people in Melbourne, and that was ridiculous, and we didn't have a record deal or anything, you know.

So we knew that people liked what we did.

It was kind of a different sound and so forth.

But when the first album hit, it was really, this is just kind of...

snowballing little spot fires all over the world.

America was the last country to really pick up on the band.

So we had like between six and nine months before they finally, where it finally kicked in over there.

You know, it felt like we were in control of what was going on, but of course, you know, you're just, you're trying to,

You're trying to cope, really, you know, and you do the best job you can, really.

And I thought I knew everything and it turns out that I knew nothing.
