You're probably going to a nightclub on a Sunday night after you finish the last call.
Every cent you make is going back behind the counter or going to town.
And it just wasn't really productive.
And I guess...
All that kind of came to a head for me.
I think it was around 2012.
We were probably in the middle of a recession, probably the worst part of it.
And bars in general, kind of like they are now, bars in general were not in a good place.
If you notice, like when we, not we now, but my Noel Howell, my previous boss, the owner of the Top of the Hill, he actually, last week, Noel bought the pub 30 years ago in 1996.
Back then, if you opened the Top of the Hill, no music, no match, no nothing on the television, the pub was full seven nights a week.
I remember on a Sunday morning, mass would finish, you would open the doors,
you wouldn't see anyone yet.
You would just start filling Guinness and the lads would come in and they'd take them.
The pub would be packed.
And back then you had holy hours and all that kind of stuff.
The pub would close at maybe three to four on a Sunday.
All that's gone now.
And that started to disappear, I would say, like 2011, 2012.
pubs started to get quiet and i suppose everyone gets everyone gets blamed for that you know if you're a manager of or one of the managers or the manager you know the owner and i i do i would do the same myself now 20 years on 10 years on you'll be looking what's the reason here now i suppose in hindsight looking back there was no reason we were in a recession money was tight i
Um, so my, my bear work, I suppose I had a couple of things going on that time in my life and, um, my bear work career for a time came to an end abruptly.
