But that happens frequently when you go to higher masses.

If your star is born with 10 to 100 times more mass than the sun was born with, well, then about 80% of the stars are multiple, double stars.

So for the sun, I think it's just a logical consequence of there only being half of them

that live their life together.

Luckily for us, it wouldn't have been so nice here if it would have been living next to a star that has exploded already.
