Aaron Connolly pleaded not guilty.
He maintained his innocence throughout the trial but the jury found otherwise.
It was a unanimous verdict after 10 and a half hours of deliberations and a mandatory life sentence was handed down to Aaron Connolly who at that stage was 23 years old.
Tony Hunt, the judge, said at sentencing that the defendant was young enough to make something of his life when he emerges from jail, but that Cameron will never emerge from where Mr Connolly put him on that night.
Quite a strong statement from the judge.
Now, that's not the one that has led to a new development in this, but Aaron Connolly has spent the last three years, four years really, since that sentence in jail.
but has in that time been appealing his conviction?
What were the grounds of that appeal?
So, Conor, if I understand you right, the Court of Appeal has effectively pushed a reset button on all of this.
The original trial is now put to one side.
