Chapter 1: What happened to Cameron Reilly in May 2018?

0.031 - 4.116 John Molloy

Hey there, we are Indosport with me, John Molloy. We cover sport and we have things like this.

4.476 - 20.194 Unknown

If you ask Arsenal's defenders, Gabriel and Saliba, to play in that PSG team or that Bayern team, they would be exposed as much as those centre-backs were last night. Because effectively, the attackers were on top. Then you ask the question, how many defenders were actually on the pitch last night? Because none of the full-backs have no interest in defending. They're like wingers.

And I've seen Saliba and Gabriel in an open game in that League Cup semi-final doubleheader against Newcastle last season get torn apart by Izak. I won't have anyone convince me that they can defend in that space.

On the latest episode of Real Health with me, Carl Henry, I'm delighted to be joined by Aisling Geary, studying all things fibre, dieticians and a whole lot more.

A big huge thing would be what they've tried in the past to manage their weight and how they're feeling about their weight and actually what they want to get out of the input. There can be a lot of stigma as well coming in to see a dietician. And I suppose, you know, I want to understand what the patient wants to get out of the appointment.

52.631 - 58.244 Unknown

Actually asking them what your goals are, what are you hoping to get out of that and getting them really, really clear on it.

58.424 - 60.309 Carl Henry

As ever, it's available on all podcast platforms.

62.013 - 78.915 John Molloy

This is an Irish independent podcast. There was a sense at the time that it would become obvious fairly quickly who the instigator of this would be and the investigation would move quickly. It was anything but that in the end.

79.676 - 104.583 Conor Feehan

It will be eight years ago next week since a dog walker discovered the body of student Cameron Riley in a field in County Louth. Hours earlier, the 18-year-old had been part of a group of 15 young people socialising in the area. Spirits were high, and it seemed like a fun summer's evening in Dun Laoghaire. But sometime after midnight, something happened that resulted in Cameron's death.

Chapter 2: How did the investigation into Cameron's death unfold?

389.084 - 406.823 John Molloy

Somebody out walking a dog, passing through a field, which is a kind of a shortcut, a known shortcut in the area, around 8am, spotted what he thought was somebody asleep on the ground. But as he got closer, it became obvious to him that the person that was on the ground was dead.

Must have been some shock. That was shortly after 8am the next day. So there's a gap now between around midnight when the group goes to the chipper and Cameron's body being found at 8am. That dog walker, even from a glance, they could tell that something very bad had happened.

425.005 - 442.011 John Molloy

Yeah, there were marks to Cameron's neck and face and clearly he had died a violent death and the post-mortem would find in the end that he had been asphyxiated. So look, 8.15 that morning, that's when Gardaí arrived, that's when they started their criminal investigation and the post-mortem proved central in that.

442.612 - 462.983 Unknown

The primary focus of this investigation is to establish for Cameron's family the truth as to what happened to Cameron. Cameron died as a result of injuries to his neck area and a comprehensive forensic examination of the scene is still ongoing in the area directly behind us here.

463.891 - 471.062 Conor Feehan

Can you talk us through then the Garda investigation, which obviously swung into action very quickly? I presume you were probably up there that day.

471.102 - 493.63 John Molloy

Yeah, there was a kind of a, there was a sense at the time that because there was quite a large number of people involved and they had all been out together on a common purpose, that this might wrap itself up fairly quickly. There was a sense at the time that it would become obvious fairly quickly who the instigator of this would be and the investigation would move quickly.

493.79 - 518.542 John Molloy

It was anything but that in the end because it took a long time for Gardaí to find out who was actually there. Because there was drugs being taken, some people were... less likely to put themselves forward as being there or volunteer themselves of having been there. So it did take quite a while for guards to figure out who was there and then to interview them.

519.203 - 539.014 Unknown

People in the vicinity last Friday night and Saturday morning may have consumed alcohol and drugs. But I just want to make it clear to some of those people, maybe to encourage them to come forward and speak to us. That is not the primary concern or the primary focus of this investigation.

540.316 - 558.183 John Molloy

Because people are young as well, there's a bit of sensitivity about how you interview them. So there was rumours going around then about the drugs being involved. people not coming forward and the investigation kind of moving slowly but steadily at the same time. And it was around three weeks later then that there was an arrest.
