We were low-fat movement.
We were vilifying healthy animal fats.
And we were pushing polyunsaturated fats, which we still are.
But that's when they created those guidelines.
And when you look at the makeup of breast milk naturally, it's actually higher in monounsaturated fats.
And it's higher in saturated fats.
And it's on the lower end of polyunsaturated fats.
But because we demonized saturated fats so much and we put โ
polyunsaturated fats up higher and said, oh, these are really healthy.
So to be clear for people that don't know, polyunsaturated fats are canola oil.
Exactly.
And I don't think this is largely talking, this is not being talked about enough either, is that you have to have a ratio of omega-6s to omega-3s in your body.
And you need it to be in about a four to one ratio.
Exactly.
It's so easy, but they've found that Americans eat around 15 to 20 to one in the ratio because of all these oils.
Well, Americans' diets are comprised of about 20% of these seed oils now, and so this is why it's a huge concern.
Well, and that's, yeah, to your point, that's a really big part of it, too, is a lot of these oils are rancid because they're sitting on the shelves for, you know, years at a time.
Exactly.
So you think about what we know about these polyunsaturated fats and based on the regulations that they created in the 80s for baby formula.
Now today, if a manufacturer wants to make a healthier baby formula, they are not legally allowed to make one without putting either canola oil in there, soybean oil, sunflower oil.
