So how times have changed.

Yes, he was very lucky that Mel Gibson didn't turn on him.

Yes, it was funny sort of looking at the reaction when Smith strutted up on stage and struck Chris Rock.

You almost looked at it in disbelief because there was still laughter coming from the audience.

Now, I think most of them probably thought it was staged, but it clearly wasn't.

I mean, when I first saw it, I thought it was a punch.

But the thing that struck me most was Chris Rock.

The sort of consummate professional, he was as solid as a rock.

He just stood there and got on with it, didn't quite know what to say.

Chris Rock and Will Smith, it goes back to, I think, the 2016 Oscars, sort of chorus of disapproval from certain actors, sort of protesting against the lack of diversity.

And I think Jada Pinkett-Smith, she didn't show up at the Oscars in sort of form of protest.

Chris Rock from Memory made a sort of jest at that in his opening speech at that particular Oscars.

So I think this has kind of been bubbling for a little while, so just came to an almighty head.
